This activity will discuss the historical context of bias and healthcare, and how this has evolved over time. Guidance surrounding protocols for how to provide care to patients and their families without stigma and bias will also be addressed.
Learning Objectives:
• Discuss the historical context of bias and how it continues to influence the present day.
• Identify how different types of bias can influence the healthcare visit.
• Describe what the interprofessional healthcare team can do to address bias.
• Develop strategies to strengthen the healthcare provider/patient relationship, especially among vulnerable groups (substance use, communities of color, LGBTQIA+, individuals experiencing intimate partner violence).
